About Us

GoWashingtonMN.com was created to give all Washington County residents, employees, and visitors a quick way to access transportation information. We serve as a link between providers and riders to reduce barriers and expand access to accurate information.

Washington County is committed to helping people through research, outreach, and advocacy.

An important study of transportation needs was completed in 2018. To respond to these challenges, the county has been creating tools and expanding partnerships to help address the needs of all Washington County residents.

In 2023, community listening sessions were held with older adults and residents with disabilities. The resulting report seeks to amplify the lived experiences of county residents shared at the listening sessions.

Our Transportation Navigator! Assistance is a just a click or phone call away. Travel Training is also available for individuals or groups. This can be done over the phone, email, or through group presentations and/or individual rider sessions. To ask a question, or to request training, Contact Us.

1. Check to see if your medical insurance covers the cost for medical rides. Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card. If you are on Medical Assistance, please see the Medical Transportation & Insurance page of this site for insurance carriers phone numbers.

2. Transit Link is a shared-ride public transportation service for the Twin Cities metro area where regular fixed-route bus services are infrequent or unavailable. These services are available for any resident, regardless of disability status or age.

3. Contact local organizations to see if they have volunteer driver programs, or call the transportation navigator at 651-430-6651.

The Regional Transit Capital (RTC) area service boundaries were solidified in 2006 and define the Metro Mobility Service Area. Changing this is a large undertaking and requires state statutory change which would be led by the city wanting to join the Capital area. The County has a long standing legislative platform to expand the RTC area to include the entire Metro area. Details on that platform can be found on page 32 of the legislative platform.

Public transportation is funded by many sources. Federal funds, grants, state and local taxes, legislative actions, and rider fares all work together to pay for transit. Washington County’s work is funded in part by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
